1st camera: Charged battery, used camera, battery would not recharge (battery charged while inserted in camera).
2nd camera: Used a couple weeks, unit would no longer write to memory card. Verified memory card functionality.
The camera worked ok but it broke within 1 month. Lens will not retract.
This camera has been excellent – fit in my pocket (about the size of cell phone) and takes great pictures. My son is in hockey and taking pictures on ice has always problem – this camera has given me some great pictures and memories. Love Kodak – great price – easy to use.
This little Kodak M340 is a little power house. It takes really great pictures and the battery charge lasts a very long time. It is easy to use and has several different features for taking pictures. It is easy to carry around and is small enough to slip into a backback or purse. The 2.7″ screen is excellent! Overall I would highly recomment this camera. I like it so much that I ordered 11 of these from Kodak and Amazon for our 15 year employees. Because I chose the silver one for the gifts, I was able to have them engraved.
Until last year, I still took all my pictures using a 35mm camera from Canon. As I would often tell people, I took pictures with an “antique”. However, film is becoming more and more difficult to find and is also quite expensive. So, at the end of last summer I finally broke down and bought a digital camera. I investigated for nearly two months before choosing the KODAK M340.
In reading the reviews here at Amazon, there are quite a few that seem to be only written for the sake of bashing Kodak. I admit that many of Canon’s products are superior to Kodak, especially on the high-end of the spectrum. However, Kodak does make a better quality product for lay people to use. Not only that, but even though many of Kodak’s products are made in China, Kodak is an American company, whereas Canon is a Japanese company. Kodak has ticked-off a lot of people in recent years because of some of the unsafe working conditions they tried to hide from employees in the 1970s-1980s as well as for their failure to realize the impact of digital technology. Still, it is an American company with a long history and I try to buy American when I am able.
I’ve now had the M340 for over 6 months and I really like it. The camera takes great vivid and colorful pictures. It has menus that are easy to use. It’s powered by a Li-on battery that can be charged either using an outlet or through your computer. I was able to use the camera for almost three full days (about 8 hours of continuous use) without having to recharge it. It includes an option of taking pictures in color, black and white, or sepia. The camera also takes video. For the rather small, portable size of this camera it has a huge view screen (2.7 inches). You can change the flash settings or completely turn them off. There’s a huge selection of picture-taking modes, e.g. low-light, scenic, etc.
Until recently the camera made a slight motor noise whenever in use. I have since discovered that the solution to this is to go to the menu and turn the Auto Focus (AF) from “Continuous AF” to “Single AF”. Doing this will eliminate the noise in most cases, though there are times you can still hear it. The noise occurs because of the motor in the camera refocusing.
The only “complaint” (it is a minor one) that I have with the camera is that it has hardly any internal memory; you are able to take about three pictures or a two-second video and that is it. In order to actually use the camera you have to buy a memory card. This isn’t too big of a deal because memory cards are quite common. However, it does add about $10 to the actual cost of the camera.
Other than that, I have no complaints about this camera. I’ve been quite satisfied with it and recommend it for anyone looking for an inexpensive, but good digital camera.
